About this image compressor
Reduce an image’s file size before sharing it, attaching it to an email, or adding it to a website. Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP, set a quality level, and compare the original size with the new file. You can also set maximum dimensions and choose an output format. The preview and downloaded result are generated on your device, so no file is uploaded to a service.
How it works
The image is decoded into pixels in a browser worker, fitted within the maximum dimensions without upscaling, and re-encoded as WebP, JPG, or PNG. Quality affects lossy JPG and WebP. PNG uses lossless encoding.
Try these examples
2,000 × 1,000 image, max 1,080 × 1,080
1,080 × 540 output; exact file size depends on the image
100 KB original and 60 KB output
40% smaller
Limitations & privacy
One JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 20 MB and 12 million pixels. Output sides are limited to 4,096 pixels. Compression savings vary and a result can be larger. PNG ignores quality. JPG replaces transparency with white. Animation, EXIF, and color profiles are not preserved. Web Workers and OffscreenCanvas are required.
Inputs and results stay in this browser. Only tool identifiers are stored for your recently used tools. You can clear that history from the directory.
A few good questions
Does my photo get uploaded?
No. A browser worker processes it on your device.
Why is the result larger?
Some source files are already well optimized. Try WebP, lower quality, or smaller dimensions.
Is quality 80 lossless?
No. JPG and WebP at that setting are lossy. PNG retains the rendered pixels but may increase file size.
